Honour the Deputy
HONOUR THE DEPUTY is a gorgeous gray graded stakes placed son of Honour and Glory who was foaled in Florida on 1-28-07. He won at first asking in a Maiden Special Weight race at Laurel Park in Maryland on 9-22-10. After securing 3 wins and 1 second in four starts at Laurel Park, he moved on to Santa Anita in southern California. He left Santa Anita after a win in the claiming ranks on 4-21-13. He moved to the lesser tracks in Wyoming and then on to Turf Paradise where he won a claiming race his first time on the track on 10-17-15. During his racing career, he had bowed his left front tendon. On 2-21-16, he re-bowed the tendon and was vanned off the track. His racing career was over, but he had friends in "high places". Martita Goshen, champion of retired racehorses, had followed his career for some time and when she saw the "vanned off" comment in his stats, she knew it was time to act. She contacted Equine Encore Foundation, and we contacted his trainer, Satchell Stevens, a nephew of Hall of Fame rider, Gary Stevens. Honour The Deputy's young trainer wanted a wonderful retirement for this horse who had secured his first win as a trainer, but tears filled his eyes as he said good-bye. He proved once again that GOOD TRAINERS DO CARE ABOUT THEIR HORSES!
